The annual budget for the year under report was 17.137 lakhs that is necessary to run the farm of 150 ac. The expenditure was 18.646 lakhs.

Cropping programme :

The breeder and nucleus seed production target is communicated by the Director, Center for Plant Breeding and Genetics. The foundation and truthful label seed target are determined based on local needs. During this year 150 acres of breeder seed crop were raised and in most of the cases the target allotted to the farm was accomplished. Apart from seed production, this station also conducts MLT for Cumbu, ragi, sorghum, rice, Lab lab, cotton and kolingi. Many stations approach us for seed multiplication of newly developed and yet to be released varieties as this station is endowed with water all the year around.

The month saw a surge in receipt to the tune of Rs. 7.71 lakhs, which augers well for the rest of the year.

Integrated Village Development programme:

The vision of our Vice–Chancellor to take the lab to the field through the IVDP is fulfilled by adopting Gullapuram and Kovilpatti. Last year the scientists of this farm visited the village and arranged for Coconut Eryiophid mite eradication programme and also supplied quality seeds to needy farmers.

Epilogue :

Agricultural Research Station, Vaigai Dam has been in forefront of production and distribution of quality seeds to farmers and state department of Agriculture. It will endeavor to strive so in future and meet the obligations of seed producers and farmers.
