In the present decade,
Biological sciences have grown in leaps and bounds as a
data rich science. With the advances in Molecular Biology,
numerous organisms have been sequenced and the sequence
data is being used in designing drugs for curing many
inherited diseases. All these processes necessitate the use
of computers and related software for analyzing the data.
Present day Biotechnology industry demands skilled manpower
in the field of Bioinformatics as the data being generated
increases day by day.
Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) is a leader in
providing Agriculture education in the country. Responding
to the demands of the industry, TNAU has made an initiative
by launching a new degree program, B.Tech.
(Bioinformatics), which is of four years duration (Eight
Semesters) from the academic year 2006-07.
This course is offered by the Centre for Plant Molecular
