Coimbatore, August 11: All the seven colleges under the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) are being connected with an advanced single point video conference equipment and the facility would become operational within a couple of months, TNAU vice-chancellor Dr C Ramasamy said here today. Inaugurating the facility formally, he said that 75 per cent of work to connect the campuses in the state was completed. This would be utilised for improving the overall education standards on all the campuses, by enabling interaction with experts, learning about cultural differences, besides helping in addressing different learning styles, increasing motivation improving retention, skills like presentation and speaking, communication and management, questioning skills, he said. Stating that video conferencing would facilitate real time communication between teachers and students on all campuses, Ramasamy said that it would create a social presence that resembled face-to-face meeting, besides serving as an effective way for a teacher to teach and interact with students in remote locations. Being an effective way to bring an expert in a particular subject matter area into an on-the-campus course, the facility was set to save teaching staff a great deal of time which would otherwise be spent in travelling from one site to another. Staff and students of all the campuses would be able to participate in important international conferences, workshops and seminars, organised by the TNAU in any campus, he said. (Agencies)
