One of the mandate of HC& RI is Research and Development of Medicinal and Aromatic crops. The Faculty has initiated the 'Project working Group' in the year 2003 to cope up the largely demanding research priorities on medicinal plants.

The Dean (Hort) is the nodel officer for the working group. The working group has prioritized the key areas of research in this field.

Research Activities in medicinal Plants

1. Genetic coservation of Medicinal and Aromatic crops.
2. Varietal development and Standardization of production technologies.
3. Molecular characterization through DNA finger printing techniques for documentation.
4.Quantification and characterization of biomolecules.

Crops in which major research work is being done

Coleus forskohlii, Gloriosa superba, Andrographis paniculata, Phyllanthus amarus, Wlthania somnifera, Curculigo orchioides, Asparagus racemosus.
