| Genesis and Growth | |
| Thanks to the support of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India for extending the financial support to start the Manpower Development Programme in Biotechnology. This program was started in Tamil Nadu Agricultural University during 1988 through Postgraduate Programme in Biotechnology. Later in 1990, a separate Centre for Plant Molecular Biology (CPMB) was established to work on plant molecular biology and biotechnology aspects of crop plants. Many programmes of this centre are carried out in collaboration with other disciplines such as plant breeding and genetics, crop physiology, plant pathology, agricultural entomology and microbiology. This centre has three different departments viz. Department of Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Department of Biochemistry and Department of Microbiology. Department of Microbiology joined this centre in 2003. |
