Bioconcorrenza ’10 , the scientific retreat which is now ready to accept the young scientists of the era to project their innovations and ideas to the country.
It has been happening for 4yrs now and this time, comes to u bigger and better!
Welcome to the new world of learn, apply and innovate!!
Welcome to Bioconcorrenza to compete, contract and revitalize (Combine)!!

Tamilnadu agricultural university is the pioneer in Indian agricultural research. The university’s history dating back to a century speaks nothing less about the scientific contributions it had made to the agricultural development of the country. The institution boasts the honor of granting the agricultural degree to the father of Indian green revolution, Dr.M.S.Swaminathan.  It is still producing potential revolutionists who fight not only in the agricultural battle but also in the area of new generation sciences: Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.

The clash of ideas brings forth the sparks of truth. We at bioconcurrenza aim to create a competition between the ingenious biological visions and add more light to the torch of the science. The bioconcorrenza is open for all who can approach science in a different way and understand it before unleashing its potentials through their innovations.

The Centre for Plant Molecular Biology was established in 1990 in collaboration with DBT,GOI to give an impetus to research in the field of biotechnology. The department offers graduate, post graduate and doctoral degree programs in biotechnology and bioinformatics which aims at the synergy of research skills. Department of Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology conducts research in thrust areas of molecular biology and provides intensive training to professionals in this field. The department also organizes seminars and workshops at national and state level on the emerging issues in biotechnology and bioinformatics. The depatment receives generous funding from DBT,DST,CSIR and BARC for upgrading the research facilities. This centre has good research collaboration with leading international institutions including IRRI, ICRISAT, Cornell University and Virginia Tech,USA.

It is a part of the Biotechnology Information System (BTIS) network of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, since 1989. The Distributed Information Sub-Centre (DISC) of the BTInet is functioning from the Department of Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and has been involved in research activities in biotechnology and bioinformatics training.

Bioinformatics lab with high end computers loaded with packages such as DISCOVERY STUDIO, EMBOSS, NTSYSPC, Exome, Biosuite, IRRISTAT and a genome database server caters the service of students and researchers in bioinformatics. Besides, the bioinformatics lab is connected to a high speed internet connectivity.
