The Department of Farm machinery had been engaged in teaching Under Graduate students since the start of Bachelor of Engineering program in 1972. Courses relating to basic mechanical engineering like Workshop practice, Thermodynamics, Heat engines, Machine drawing, Machine shop practice, Production technology, Theory of machines and Electrical engineering were offered. The Farm Machinery courses related in Farm Power, Farm machinery, Earthmoving and Well drilling. The UG program for BE(Ag) students continued up to 1996. when it was shifted to Kumulur campus.

Ú The PG program was started in 1977 .  The PhD program was started in the Department during the year 1987. Both PG and PhD Programmes comprise course work and research. In addition to these programmes of the department, the department also offers courses for under graduated and students of Agricultural, Forestry and Horticulture.
