A technology for the production of Ready to Cook Mix from pearl millet (cumbu) has bene developed and commercialsed.

Current areas of research

 The current areas of research are

i)        Minimal processing of fruits and vegetables

ii)   Storage of idli batter

iii)   Ready  to eat flakes from minor millets

iv)    Development of Mango destoner and utilisation of mango stone kernel

v)    Canning of mushroom

vi)   Pearling of minor millets

vii)   Nano encapsulation technology 

Thrust areas

The activities of this department are planned with the following thrust areas.

      v        To take continued efforts to reduce the post harvest losses both in perishables and durables.

v        To develop suitable technologies for the value addition of farm produces and also for the utilization of the agricultural wastes.

v        To develop improved gadgets to reduce drudgery to the farm workers and improve efficiency of working by the farm workers.

v        To create and extend the facilities of product testing and certification to the entrepreneurs.

v        Transfer of proven technologies to the entrepreneurs, farmers, etc, by conducting demonstrations, trainings, etc. and act as a technology incubator.

  v To conduct training programmes to the entrepreneurs and exporters on GMP, HACCP, Hygiene, 

            etc. to achieve export competitiveness.
